Christian Beginnings has a long tradition in Deerfield, with roots dating back to the Christian nursery school that opened at the church in 1973. Over the years, the program has expanded and grown to meet the changing needs of parents trying to provide quality care for their children.
The purpose of Christian Beginnings is to help children grow socially, emotionally, intellectually, physically and spiritually. The faculty is dedicated to helping children develop a good self-concept and positive, trusting relationships. This is accomplished by treating each child with love, trust, respect and understanding. The school provides a unique curriculum within a loving context. In essence, the school strives to provide an experience that enables each child to feel comfortable with him/herself, others, and God.
The program is as flexible as possible, with an emphasis on free choice of activities. Many materials are available that allow children to experiment at their own pace and in their own way. Although the atmosphere is a relaxed one, it is also a controlled one. Limits and rules are applied so that the children learn self-discipline and respect for others.
During the year, the classroom is geared to a specifically planned preschool and Kindergarten curriculum, divided into units, that matches the age, needs, and developmental levels of the children.
The program strives to help children grow in many ways. Many opportunities exist for intellectual development. Social studies, science, math, and health are all subjects in which three and four-year-olds are able to grasp the most elementary concepts.
The program allows for time to be spent outside on the playground. The equipment is chosen for its safety and for its ability to encourage the child's physical development and imagination.
Developing listening and communication skills is essential. The children spend time in groups, working with teachers and other children. They also have time to learn songs and stories to share with others.
